hi, my brothers girlfriend is having twins, she is diabetic and one of the babys lungs are alot smaller than the other and his heart is not in the right place, the doctors have said that there is a high possibility this baby will die, is there any chance he will survive and if there is what are the possible complications he will suffer throughout life? thanks

greetings.

what you are talking about is hypoplasia of lungs.as in the lungs are less developed.
we all know how important it is to have lungs because they are the most important thing for the respiration.basic mechanism of life.
so the exact chances will be determined only when the child is assessed for how much adequate lung tissue does he have.

as far as heart is concerned an isolated dextrocardia(rt sided heart)doesnt play much role.but normally such abnormalities comes in clusters.so if heart is placed wrongly and thelungs are small.it basically is the grunt of the combination the child faces.
