Small child, white discharge from penis, fever. Taken tylenol. Serious symptoms?

my 16 month old son was scratching at his diaper tonight. seemed very uncomfortable. i opened up his diaper and his penis was emitting a white-ish discharge . the diaper was also stained a darker color then normal. It had no odour. i put diaper cream on it. Should i be concerned that i should take him to Emerg? I also checked his temperature which was a little above normal about 37.2. I gave him baby tylenol . Is this anything serious?

Dear Mum

a thick white discharge, appearing at the foreskin is quite normal for boys under the age of 3 years. These basically are epithelial 'pearls", a medical term for skin that is shed. We normally shed skin from the outer layers all over the body, in a small boy, due to the foreskin being relatively closed, the skin collects and forms these white discharges. If it becomes associated with pain, or redness or fever or burning during passing urine, please get his urine examined for infection. But if he is well and none of the above symptoms are present, please be reassured that this is a part of his growing up !
