Small Child, Swollen Frenulum On Left Side Of Tongue, Difficulty Swallowing Food. Treatment Options?

Hi Doc, my daughter is a year old tomorrow. the past 2 weeks i have noticed that her frenulum is swollen on the left side under her tongue . She has been to the Doc and he said she looks absolutely fine. Altho she has not gained weight since she was 10 months old, and she seems to be having difficulty swallowing food. She is otherwise very healthy breast fed baby.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Though you have mentioned about the swelling it is not clear whether the swelling is warm to touch, increasing in size and hurts your daughter while touching it. The treating doctor must have noticed all these points and on this basis must have asked you not to worry.

You mentioned that your daughter "seems" not to be gaining weight after 10 months of age. However you have not mentioned her weight at 10 months and now. At this age, the rate of weight gain is not what it used to be earlier which may be worrying you. It shall be best to plot the weight on a standard weight graph and observe the growth.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter all the best.

Regards,

RKK
