Small Child, Lump On Neck, Sores On Chin, Bad Breath. Cyst, Abscess Or Leukaemia?

My 3 year old son has a neck lump he has had a ultrasound and we have been told it could be a cyst ,abcess or a lymphoma/ leukemia we are waiting now for a outpatient appt. he has not been unwell and is acting as normal. I have noticed some dribbling lately as he has developed some sores on his chin and also bad breath. I am really worried this could be something nasty...

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I can understand your concern on hearing all these diagnoses. As you mention that your son has some sores on his chin they can be the cause of enlarged lymph nodes in the neck which you are noticing as a lump. You are doing the right thing by consulting your doctor who will examine him thoroughly and do the following:
1. Prescribe medicines according to his examination.
2. Do a work-up to confirm his diagnosis and exclude the other possible causes.
