Small Child, Large Red Patches Behind Knees, Blotches In Stomach, Arms, Face. Due To Eczema?

My child has always had huge red patches behind his knees. The doctor said it was Eczema and gave us an ointment for it. Recently these red blotches have spread to the front of his thighs, his stomach , arms, and even two spots on his face. Does this sound like Eczema or should I look into treating him for something else?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Though you have given a description of the red patches, you following details will help us in guiding you:
1. Age of your son?
2. From when have these patches been present?
3. What ointment was prescribed by the doctor?
4. Did the ointment provide any relief?
If the patches had reduced or disappeared following the application of the medicine and then appeared again after stopping the medicine then it could be an allergic reaction. In this situation we need to work out what is causing this allergic reaction and try to avoid that substance from your son's environment.

If the patched did not respond to the ointment then your son needs to be re-evaluated by the doctor.

I hope I have responded to your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son a speedy recovery.

Regards,

RKK
