Give plenty of fluids, warm water will be soothing, give lemon tea with honey,
Give him steam inhalation for 5 to 10 minutes.
Give simple and nutritious diet, avoid fried and junk food.
In case symptoms persist get him evaluated again by pediatrician.

Thank you for your query,
As the cough is dry and irritating the child you can give the cough syrup in prescribed dosage every 8 th hourly.
It will take 3 to 5 days, the dry cough to decrease.
But if the cough is is increasing consult your Pediatrician for the examination of throat and lungs and for proper medication.
Hope i have answered your query.
