Slow Heart Rate, Normal EKG. Mother Had Mitrovalve Prolapse. Anything To Worry?

My EKG shows Sinus rhythm with frequent premature ventricular complexes and possible premature atrial complexes with aberrant conduction. Otherwise normal ECG. Tend to have slow heart rate 60 bpm. Should I be worried about hear problems. Recent cholesterol this month was 204 overall and mom had mitrovalve prolapse in her 70's. I am 62 year old female. Thanks Athena

Hi Athena and thank you for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom's slow heartbeat.

A heart rate of 60 is normal. Also, if she were very athletic in her youths, then it is more likely that it is an adaptation.
If she has any symptoms like dizziness, feeling as to pass out blurred vision associated to this slow heart rate, then there is a reason for you to get worried. Also, if it is a recent change, then it would be nice if you can meet and investigate more with a cardiologist on what the possible explanations are.

Mitral valve prolapse is in various severity. Only severe and symptomatic cases need active intervention. if this is the case with your mom then please get her evaluated for various treatment options. However, mitral valve prolapse would not cause a slow heart beat.

Her cholesterol seems highs. Get all these addressed by her doctor with a detailed lipid profile and treatment plan.

Hope this helps and wish her well.
