Slow digestion symptoms, bloating, stomachache, stomach heavy, some home remedies for treatment?

I have all the symptoms of slow digestion; bloating , stomachache, my stomach feels heavy even when I have only eaten a small portion of food, plus more. I researched home remedies and I read about eating more fiber (which is very involved in my diet , I eat an apple a day, fiber filled cereal and pecans daily) and another site told my I m getting too much fiber. What should I do? What are some natural remedies for slow digestion?

Hello swstultz. I would advise that you start by doing a food journal. This includes writing down foods, when you eat it, and how you feel after eating this food. This journal will help you start to narrow down and see if there is a certain food such as milk or bread that makes the bloating worse. Take the food journal to your family physician to assist them in helping you.

I would also advise eating several small meals a day instead of large meals as this would help by allowing your digestion to keep pace with your eating hopefully.

Fiber is a different issue. Fiber helps the digestive system stay "regular". However, too much fiber can also bulk up the stools too much and cause constipation. So taking fiber is good, but you also need to ensure that you are taking in adequate water as well.

Be well, Dr. Kimberly
