Skin Abscess On Face And Underarms. History Of Surgically Opened And Cultured Wound On Chest. Advised Opening Wounds Again For MRSA Test. Any Simple Blood Tests?

About 1.5 years ago I had a wound on my chest and another on my upper arm surgically opened and cultured. Several months later I went to my doctor regarding continued problems with ski abcess's on my face and ubderarms. At that time my doctor told me that the wounds on my chest and upper arms showed mrsa in the blood. I am still getting cysts and absess's on my face and underarms and when I ask my dr about doing a test to see if mrsa is still present the dr tells me that one of. THESE absess's will have to be opened and cultured to see if mrsa is still present. Is there no simple blood test formrsa? Also I should tell you that my dr attributes my skin problems to my type two diabetes whic h is difficult to control with novalog and levemir flexpen injections.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

Type 2 diabetes mellitus increases the risk of various infections.
Probably you are getting these infections repeatedly due to the underlying diseases process.
One of the skin boils, abscess, or cyst has to be opened to test for the infectious agent.
Examination of the discharge or pus has to be done to find out the cause of infection.
Appropriate antibiotics can be prescribed after performing this test. Antibiotic before performing the test can cause resistance to the infectious agent.

Thanks and take care
