Sickle cell disease, sickle nature of blood cells. Chances of contracting dengue or malaria?

Good day. I am a patient with Sickle Cell Disease (I am a SC) and was told previously by a doctor that I need not worry about Dengue or Malaria because of the sickle nature of my blood cell . However, a couple minutes ago, I heard on the local news that a 15 Sickle Cell patient died from Dengue. What is the truth as it relates to Sickle Cell and Dengue?
