Should The Vaccination Be Given To The Bacterial Meningitis?
I have a 83 yr old friend that was taken to the hospital 22 March. The doctors told her she has bacterial Menigitis . Today is the first time I have seen her seen she was diginose , didn t know she had this until I went to see her. Do I need to see a doctor for vaccine.
Hi, Bacterial meningitis is an infection affecting meninges caused by various groups of bacteria. Not everybody develops, but risk is high in the elderly. common causes include streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitidis and occasionally H. influenzae etc. CSF analysis with symptoms helps in confirmation of the diagnosis. Vaccine is not available for every bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoa and all of these can cause meningitis. I would suggest you to get vaccinated against Neisseria meningitidis preferably. Other vaccinations available include against H. influenzae and streptococcus pneumoniae. But all of these are not 100% protective. You can get vaccinated from your doctor. Maintaining a good nutritional diet and mild exercise could help you in improving immunity. Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further queries, happy to help.
