Should I Be Worried About High Blood Sugar, low Urine Output And Poor Kidney Function?

I have a friend who entered the hospital with blood sugars of 540 and had a abscess. The dr s put him on sedation for 5 days and a ventilator. He is obese. He was taken off the ventilator and off sedation and it has been 2 days and he still has not awakened. He has low urine output and his kidneys are still not functioning well. Is there reason to be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Yes this is a cause of concern .
Very high blood sugar level , with low urine output , and unconsciousness is an indication of chronic renal failure ( may be acute renal failure ) .
So get in blood for serum creatinine level , blood urea level , with M R I of both kidneys .
In my opinion this is a serious case of hyperglycemia and renal failure as patient is obese so consult a nephrologist and get his opinion
