Should A Wound Vac Be Placed On A Ruptured Artery?

Hi, my father had a solid blockage removed from his groin area, ended up with a staph infection and began hemoraging from the incisions site. He was brought to ER on a Friday where they cleaned out the area and placed a Vac in the opened groin incision and we were told they would be placing a muscle flap over the area on Monday. Within 10 hours the artery ruptured and he was in surgery for a bypass. Should a wound vac be placed over an artery like that? Dr. stated that the bacteria ate two wholes in the artery wall. Although, the wound vac is a great healing device it still makes me wonder if the that area was a good candidate for a wound vac over the artery.

hello,
no doubt vacuum dressing is a great healing procedure but it should not be placed over an exposed artery or rupture artery which may lead to sudden excessive blood loss due rupture of artery and finally lead into shock . and from my point of view staph. cannot digest the vessel wall which contain elastin, though it can cause thrombus formation in vessel and block it due to enzyme it release i;e coagulase
