Should A Biopsy Be Done For High PSA Value?

My father who is 80 years now is suffering from prostate enlargement from last few years. Recently he is diagnosed with spondilytis in C5 and C6, He has problem in urinating. His PSA count is 49 now which is almost constant from years. When we have consulted a urologist, he suspects a prostate cancer and he also suspects that it has already spread to his spine because of which is having spondilytis problem. We are in a dilema whether to go for biopsy or not, Is the biopsy risky now? Is it just prostate enlargement or prostate cancer? Pl guide us what to do next

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. Your father has prostate enlargement with high PSA level and back pain. All features favour the diagnosis of prostatic cancer with spine metastasis. He should go for prostate biopsy. It is not risky at all. He can go for trans rectal ultrasound guided biopsy.
It will give you exact diagnosis.
Then he should take treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
