Should Storvas 10 Be Taken For LDL Being 149, VLDL 18 And HDL 41?

Hello Doctor, I got my lipid profile test done at three labs within space of one week.The values are LDL 136/109/149..VLDL 44/33/18..HDL 38/54/41 TG,s 207/196/91.On all three occasions i was on minimum 12 hours fast.The last lab is most reliable. Do i need Storvas 10...once daily..

I appreciate your concern for the elevated lipid (fat) profile and its treatment.
Incomplete data to suggest the treatment options like age, gender, duration of the problem, any history of smoking, any underlying medical illness like heart disease, hypothyroidism, etc.

Storvas (cholesterol lowering medication) is usually recommended if two of the following risk factors are present:

1. Cigarette smoking
2. Hypertension (BP >140/90 mmHg or on antihypertensive medication)
3. Low HDL cholesterol (4. Family history of premature heart disease
5. Age (men >45 years; women >55 years)

Since your LDL Cholesterol is BORDER LINE high, so in addition to storvas you must have the following life style modifications to reduce your cholesterol levels like

1. Avoid saturated fat (foods of animal origin like red meat, egg yolk)
2. Increased dietary fiber (vegetables and fruits)
3. Weight management
4. Increased physical activity.
