Should I Take Calcium Channel Blockers And ACE Inhibitors All At Once?

I underwent a cardiac cath two weeks ago due to EKG changes and chest pain while sleeping and/or when exposed to cold air, in addition to other symptoms. Before and after the cath my EKGs stated ST and T wave abnormalities with left axis deviation. My cath was normal, and I was diagnosed with "micro vascular disease". I am a type I diabetic with hypertension, hyperlipedemia, and sarcoidosis. I was placed on diltiazem for the chest pain, and taken off of Coreg CD. Since then, my blood pressure has skyrocketed, chest pain is much worse and more frequent. Five days ago I was placed back on Coreg CD and a low dose of Amlodipine. There is virtually no change in my pressure. My doctor wants to add Catapress to my drug regemin, is this something that is advisable. My pressure currently is 178/110. Should I take calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors, and Beta blockers all at once? Thanks of your response.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these difficulties that you have getting your blood pressure numbers adequately controlled. It is okay to take all of these medications at the same time. The goal is to get the blood pressure well controlled and at times multiple combinations are necessary for this. Take the and your blood pressure would be monitored and adjustments made accordingly.

I hope this helps. I wish you well and thank you so much for using our services. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
