Should I Hold Taking Pravastatin And Welchol And Increase The Thyroid Medication To Help High Cholesterol?

I am a 64 year old male with hypothyroidism. I take 100mg of synthroid a day and my total cholesterol is 235 and LDL is 161. I am concerned about statin drugs and their side effects. My doctor said my thyroid tests show I am in the low normal range and thought raising my thyroid medicine might help with the high cholesterol. The doctor also suggested pravastatin or welchol. Should I hold off on taking these until the higher thyroid meds take effect and the cholesterol levels can be retested?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You can discuss this option with your doctor (waiting to see if the improvement of thyroid hormone levels help).

It is important to remember that side effects are potential and may not occur. Side effects do not occur in everyone but in the minority so you may not have a problem

I hope this helps
