Should I Be Concerned If Have Treated Chlorpheniramine As Vaginal Tablet?
Hi I recently was given tablets for a vaginal infection. I was given chlorpheniramine and due to language confusion I thought it was a vaginal tablet as I am seeing the doctor in a foreign country. I have inserted it as a vaginal tablet. Is this something I should be concerned about?
This is an unusual case and please remember that the answer that I provide would be based completely on personal experience as there are no research studies to see its effects in vagina.
Most likely the drug will not cause any effect as vaginal lining is a mucosa. The drug is administered from mouth to be absorbed from the gut mucosa. So application to a mucosa will most likely not produce any difference. The only issue is that it may not be absorbed and secondly it may alter the normal vaginal flora as it is an antibiotic. So there may be a risk of secondary infection [ does not always happen]. Please remove any residual tablet if it is still there in the vagina. If there are no symptoms, do not worry. Get the vagina and cervix inspected by a gynecologist and do not worry.
Hope this helped. Thanks for using HCM Dr Nilajkumar Bagde consultant Ob Gynec.
