Should I Be Concerned For The Swelling At The Temple After A Head Injury?
hi, my name is michael and i have been to the er twice this past week for a head injury. the sad thing is that they never took any xrays but gave me tylenol and nothing more. never gotten any paper work on what i should do. i had been hiking with my partner last tuesday and while crossing the water on rocks i had slipped and took a very hard blow to my right temple. its still very swollen and im not sure what else i can do since the hospitals have not taken me seriously.
Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms (the pain and swollen lump) are related to the head trauma and are indicative of the inflammation in the soft tissues surrounding the scull (muscles, adipose tissue, skin).
It is not very concerning and need some weeks to recover completely.
Do you have any other symptoms like headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, gait difficulty? These would be alarm signs for a possible intracranial bleeding. In such case, you should go to the ER for a brain CT scan.
Otherwise, there is nothing to worry about. You should just try to have some rest and avoid possible repeated head trauma during these days.
Painkillers (acetaminophen, ibuprofen) can be really helpful for the pain.
Hope to have been helpful!
Greetings, Dr. Aida
