Should Amoxicillin Be Continued For Recurring Swelling In The Tooth?
I had a tooth abcess infection around thanksgiving. I went to the dentist and did a temporary root canal and prescribed me amoxicillin 500mg. I did not complete the antibiotics once I start feeling better. Should I continue to take the antibiotics. I stop taking it over 5 days. I just noticed swelling in the tooth coming back. I have a dentist appt in 4 days for a crown.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain if you had a tooth abscess then taking antibiotics along can provide only temporary relief by reducing infection, however as the antibiotic intake is stopped the infection will recur and cause increase in pus formation, swelling and pain..
Consult an Endodontist and get evaluated and get an x ray done..
In case if tooth can be saved then root canal treatment followed by a course of antibiotics and painkillers can help.. If there is gross decay extraction is the only solution..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
