Sharp Stabbing Pain In Left Ovary. Have Menstrual Cramps. Really Confused Could I Be Pregnant?

I'm 26 years old, my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant and this month has kind of confused me. I've been on my period for 4 days now. Before it actually started I felt my period coming on for 3 days and the 4th day I felt nothing so I didn't think I was going to start at all. But the next day it started and it was light but I had no cramps. The next 2 days it was heavier. The 3rd day of my period I felt Sharp stabbing pains in my left ovary that I have never felt in my life, but the pains lasted a few minutes on and off throughout the day. My 4th day of my period it stops and starts back at night and I have menstrual cramps. I'm really confused. Could I be pregnant? Please help!

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
I would come up with these possibilities for such type of irregular bleeding , these includes.
1 Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease i.e. (pcod) as all symptoms are an indication of pcod. Diagnosis can be confirmed by ultrasound of ovaries ( both ) .As you are also having severe pain on the left side of abdomen , this is also an indication the you may be a patient of pcod.
2 Next reason of such pain may be left renal colic . Diagnosis can be confirmed by ultrasound of left side of kidney.
3 Dysfunctional uterine bleeding , irregular bleeding , amenorrhea are however characteristic feature of pcod but hormonal imbalance may be the reason of such symptoms.Diagnosis can be confirmed by evaluation of various hormones value.
In my opinion consult a gynecologist and get his opinion. Good luck.Dr. HET
