Sharp Pains, Burning While Urinating, Not Sexually Active. UTI Symptoms?

sometimes when i pee it burns and it lead to sharp pain but it only last for about 3 seconds and i only pee a little, its not all the time, i am not sexually active since i am only a teen, and there is NO bleeding . i am a little worried but some websites say its because i may be consuming to much acid which is true and i may be dehydrated which is also true because i don t drink as much water as i know i should. whats wrong with me? could this lead to death ? is it UTI?

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Do not worry.

Try to drink lot of water. Your problem will disappear. If a person consumes very little water then the concentrated urine that is formed will result in burning sensation when the urine is formed.

So drink large quantities of water or any liquid. (not coffee or tea)

If the symptoms do not disappear even after consuming large quantities of water then you require urine examination to rule out any infection etc.

Hope this helps.
Take care.

General & Family Physician Dr. Shoaib Khan's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

The symptoms you are experiencing could indeed be due to a urinary tract infection (UTI), but this will have to be confirmed by laboratory investigations. Dehydration or consuming less amount of water can lead to a number of problems. Including kidney stones, etc. which can lead to recurrent UTI's (just for your information).

Now, my advise would be to visit a doctor and get a urine analysis done, which will help guide us towards suspecting a UTI, and accordingly advise antibiotic therapy for you.

In the meantime, please make it a habit to consume plenty of water, and also add cranberry juice to your regimen which has proved to have added benefits in relieving symptoms of a UTI.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
