Sharp Pain In Ovary Area During Periods When Coughing Or Sudden Movements. Have Irregular And Extremely Painful Periods. Serious?

I have a sharp pain in my ovary area when I cough or make sudden movements only during pms, and mostly at night. It only occurs right before my period starts. I've always had irregular and extremely painful periods, but the sharp pain I described has been plaguing me for only a few months. I was wondering what this could be a symptom of. I appreciate your time. Thank you.

Hello,

Thanks for posting,

If you often experience dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation) it might be very normal as it occurs in many women of reproductive age. If this condition only developed later on in life probably secondary to another condition such as pelvic inflammatory diseases, endometriosis, fibroids etc, then it will require treatment of these conditions first before you may get some relief. But if this condition has been existing i.e primary dysmenorrhea, then I do not think there is much to be done besides you taking pain medications during episodes such as NSAID, analgesics such as paracetamol etc. Use of hormonal contraceptives in cases of endometriosis maybe helpful.
If you feel that his "new pain" is different, then I suggest you see a gynobs to take a look.

Hope this helps
