Severe Weight Loss, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Headache. Chron's, Gluten Intolerance Test Normal. Causes?
My daugher is 23. For several months she has had weight loss . She vomits partially digested food in the morning when she gets up. This happens maybe 3 to 4 times a week. Sometimes more. She tested negative for infection or gluten intolerance, parasites or Chrons. Occasionally the vomit seems dry and is hard to come up. This morning she has been sick an hour and also has diarrhea , headache and sweating. She is not pregnant. Can you give us any insight? Could it possibly help if she takes a probiotic?
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
Your daughter is most likely suffering from acute gastroenteritis.
Presence of recurrent vomiting, diarrhea, fever suugests the diagnosis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist and should go for thorough check up.
She should take complete antibiotic therapy, antiemetic, antipyretics, and probiotics.
She should also for complete hemogram, ultrasound imaging studies and x ray abdomen.
She should maintain her hydration by taking plenty of water.
If because of vomiting, she is unable to take orally then she may need hospitaliztion and intravenous fluids.
Avoid milk and all milk related products.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
