Severe pain in my left and right side rib cage.

severe pain in my left and right side rib cage and the pain I have been experiencing severe pain in my left and right side rib cage and the pain moves down into my stomach area and then up towards my heart and then down into my back. When these episodes first began they would only last about 15 mins. Well i just finished having an episode and it lasted 4 hours and i can still feel the pain slightly. I cannot laydown because it makes the pain come back i just want to know what could be causing this so i can fix it.

My friend used to drink heavily, he had developed pain in the stomach which was going to the back once.. He was so restless in the bed.. We initially thought that it was a simple pain some thing like gastritis. But after almost 6 hrs we finally decided to take him to the ER... The doctors said that  he had pancreatitis and was hospitalised for a week... So do not take a chance,... Get it checked if the cause is  not a pancreatitis or a gall bladder stone that needs to be operated, especially if you do consume alcohol...

pain in the stomach and chest with moving up and down needs to be investigated. get an MRI scan of the chest and abdomen that will tell what is wrong and what is causing you such pain.
