Severe Migraine. Taking Verapamil. Will This Affect My Reproductive System?

Hello I have complex migraines or hemiplegic migraines and I have been suffering from them for a couple of years. I have previously taken topomax and I am now taking verapamil, but it has not subsided my menstral migraines. Do you know if there is a medication or natural way to help with my migraines? I have migraines several times a week. The imitrex as well as the nerve block has not been working either.

Also what are the odds of the reproductive issues I have (endometriosis, fibroids and cyst) affecting my migraines? I think that all of my health issues may be related. Any suggestions? Thank you

Hi,

There are many medicines other than topomax and verapamil, that give good results in migraine prophylaxis, like amitryptiline, propranolol, dosulepin, flunarizine etc. In my opinion, a combination of amitryptiline and propranolol should give excellent results. Imitrex and nerve blocks can provide relief once an episode has started but cannot prevent the occurrence of the next episode. The other things that you can do is to identify and avoid triggers of your migraine episodes, like certain foods, excessive exercise, fatigue, bright lights, noise. Hormonal changes also act as a trigger and so, it is possible for your reproductive problems or hormonal medicines to be related to your migraine.

Hope this helps you. Best wishes.
