Severe Cold Chills, Cough, Soreness Is Chest. Is It Harmful To Heart?

Last night (middle of the night of course) I began having severe cold chills. My husband put 3 blankets, heated a warm towel for me, AND put the electric blanket on. I was not running a fever. Then I began a coughing fit that I could not control. My chest is sore from all the coughing but other than that I am back to normal. No chills and no coughing today. Heart problems don't actually run in my family but strokes seem to. Any ideas on what it may have been. I am a 63 year old woman who walks daily, don't smoke, and try to eat right. I have never experienced anything like this. Thank you for your time.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

This description is highly suggestive of an infection; probably viral.
You may get the symptoms again for a day or two more, especially in the evenings and night - and finally it will settle down...
The cough is from irritation/inflammation of the bronchi....
Symptomatic treatment will often suffice...
There is no clue to suggest heart problem

If the family history is strong for a stroke, consult a neurologist / and try to aggressively address risk factors like blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol and so on...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
