Severe Chronic Urticaria. Taking Allegra. Too Much Of Medication Cause Side Effects,

I have had severe chronic urticaria for about 12 1/2 years. I ve taken all kinds of medication over the years. Most recently for about 5 years, I have been taking Allegra for chronic urticaria for several years. In the past 6 months, I ve had to increase my dose from 2/day to 3 or 4/day. The med only seems to last for about 6 hours now. I m normally in very good health, but lately I feel very poorly healthwise (fatigue, weight gain, headaches, chest pains). I thought it was stress but now I am wondering if its due to taking too much Allegra. Thank you!

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

Firstly, get yourself thoroughly evaluated by Allergy specialist, in order to pinpoint the culprit foods or environmental allergens responsible for chronic urticaria. It is highly possible that you are allergic to some specific foods / beverages, nuts etc. A comprehensive allergy test will identify the culprit allergens. SIMPLE AVOIDANCE OF THESE FOODS WILL CURB YOUR URTICARIA.

Further, you may switch over from allegra to a combination of Levoceterizine + Montelukast + Cimetidine combination twice daily.

Lastly, your symptoms are suggestive of an underlying, early stage of Thyroid problem. A Thyroid hormone levels estimation will rule out/confirm this condition. Appropriate treatment will relieve you of all your problems.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me; order required tests, and- based on the reports- will prescribe suitable treatment as advised.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE all doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.

Fond regards and have a nice day
