Severe IBS With Constipation. On Laxitives, Amitriptylin. Bowel Movement With Foul Smell. Reason?
I have severe IBS with constipation. I have been on 2 laxitives every night, plus amitriptylin for last 3 yrs. Now I am experiencing very foul smell when having bowel movements, almost has the odor of vomit. About 3 months ago, I had to undergo an out-patient procedere to open my throat, since it was closed down to a small opening for food to go down. When I address my family doctor about this, it is always diagnosed as acid reflux. I am currently taking protonix daily. Please, advice me on why the sudden odor during bowel movements? If I go without the laxitives then I have no movements for days and my stomach bloats terribly bad. Please, Help! I have been battling IBS for 20 yrs now, have had 6 colonoscopys, 2 upper gi's.

Hi, it appears that you have bad I.B.S. and it seems there is tension regarding the disease.
The bad odour after the bowel movement may be due to the infection, I to my patient with the same symptoms prescribe ofloxacin, ornidazole, omeprazole, and domperidone.
Avoid taking milk and milk products, wheat, barley etc
