Coimg back to your question, if your pain is diagnosed as sciatic pain, being a neuologist, i will like to do a MRI scan to find out if your spinal or sciatic nerve is compressed due to some cause. The initial part of the management of sciatic pain is generally medical and if the pain continues surgery is optional depending upon the clinical evidence of nerve problem.
I generaly avoid steroid tablets in patients with sciatic pain . If you donot have allergy, kidne problem you may take a short course of analgesics like Naproxen, ibuprofen for few days. The other medicines which will help you are gabapentin and pregabalin. Try to avoid steroid.
Best wishes
