Scab due to insect bite has turned into a slight bruise causing intermittent itching. What could this possibly be?

I had what i assumed was an insect bite over a year ago. I scratched it and it bled later creating a scab. It eventually darkened resembling a slight bruise . I continue to experience intermittent itching especially when I go to bed. Could you please tell me what this could possibly be? It might be worth mentioning that I have RA.

Hi ,

Thanks for writing in.

It can be papular urticaria, insect bite reaction, secondary bacterial infection etc.

For correct diagnosis the images of the lesions and more info like duration, presence or absence of other lesions would be needed.

You can apply calamine lotion over the affected area and also once a day hydrocortisone cream application may be helpful. Also you can take Tab zyrtec for itching.

With images of the affected area and details of the symptoms a proper diagnosis can be made.
Images can be uploaded by the premium questions area.

I encourage you to visit a qualified dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Hope this helps.
