Runny Nose And Irritated Throat. Took Claritin. Now I Have Irritated Gums And Swollen Lips. What Could This Be?

My name is John and last Friday I became sick with first a runny nose and irritated throat and took Claritin to relieve symptoms. However, the next day everything on my body hurt. As a result I waited 24 hours and began to take Theruflu every 6 hrs. The whole time this problem pursist I was taking caugh drops. Now my symptoms are better, however; I now have irritated gums as well as irritation on the top of my throat. It is raw between my teeth and gums and also on my right nostril it is swollen also my lips on the top by my mustache is irritated. Should I be alarmed and what should I do?

Hello,
Irritated gums and swollen lips may occur due to adverse reaction of Claritin.
I would suggest you to get the medicine replaced.
Gargle frequently with warm saline or betadine.
Use chlorhexidine mouthrinse to gargle.
Get your teeth cleaned.
Take plenty of fluids and nutritious diet.
Vitamin c,iron aupplements has to be administered.
