Rotten Smell From Hole, White And Spotty After Tooth Extraction. Taken Antibiotics. Home Remedy?

I had a tooth extracted 6 days ago. It was a traumatic oral surgery which took nearly 50 minutes.About two days ago I began noticing a bad rotting smell coming from hole which is white and spotty. It hurts and I am out of medication. I took antibiotics 2 days before extraction and three days proceeding extraction. Can this be remedied at home?

hiiii.
welcome to HCM
I have gone through your query and it seems that traumatic extraction many a times can lead to dry socket. A condition wherein postoperative pain starts within 3 days post surgery along with presence of foul odour.
Basically the blood clot that is formed during healing gets disintegrated thereby exposing the underlying unhealed bone.
The line of treatment for this would be repeated placement of antimicrobial dressing at the extraction site...it is advisable if u can visit your dentist for the same. Along with this chlorhexidene mouth wash gargles 2 -3 times daily will combat infection hence will accelerate healing.
get well soon..thank you.

Hi...welcome to HCM

After going through your query it seems that your traumatic extraction has lead to clinical complication known as dry socket.

Dry socket is regularly seen after a traumatic extraction. Nothing to worry about in this case.

Generally after extraction of tooth the blood that comes out from the socket forms a covering over the socket which serves two main function-
1- protects the underlying bone from the surrounding thus preventing infection
2- it helps in faster healing of the socket.

In your case this blood clot has disintegrated thus exposing the under lying bone which gradually gets infected.

The correct line of treatment would be regular dressing of the socket by some anti-bacterial agent. This would provide a tremendous relive to you from the pain.

Further daily rinse mouth wash (2-3 times daily), mainly after meals would also help you a lot.

It is advised that you consult your dentist as soon as possible for the treatment.

Thank you

Hello and welcome.

After reading your history, it appears that there is dry socket developed in the extracted socket.

Foul smell and pain indicates towards loss of clot. Therefore please do not do self medication, it requires clinical evaluation and management with antiseptic dressing.

Therefore please see your dentist in this regard.Meanwhhile gently do warm saline rinses.

This should help.

Thanks.

Take care.

hello,
thanks for sharing your health query with us.

As per you described bad smell, white spotty hole & pain 6 days after extraction is definatiely indicative of infection at the extraction site.

This occurs because of the dislodgement of blood clot due to one or any reason which leads to the infection of bone at the socket.

I can understand from which situation you are going because the pain is very intense in this situation.

you can do some things to have some relief from pain:

1) Take the antibiotic an pain killer medication prescribed by your doctor for another 5 days.
2) use mouth wash to rinse the mouth 3-4 times a day, keep mouth as clean as possible. You can use warm water rinse also( add 1 tbs of salt in luke warm water)
3) If you smoke, stop smoking immediately until your wound heals because smoking prolongs the healing process.
4) You should visit your dentist to get your wound cleaned and dressed with medicated pack which would give you instant relief from pain.

Get well soon.

hi

Welcome to HCM

Your history suggests you have got dry socket due to improper clot formation after extraction.
You need to maintain good oral hygiene & alveogyl dressing in socket.
Consult your dentist & get it treated.

Take Care

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

According to your clinical symptoms i suppose that you have developed a condition called as dry socket, it is a painful condition which occurs when the blood clot gets dislodged from the socket.

Take tab brufen for pain relief.

At home take lukewarm saline rinses to give a soothing effect, take antiseptic mouthwash gargles.

A dressing of zinc oxide eugenol has to be placed to promote healing of the socket, i would suggest you to visit to the concerned Dentist for that.

Take care!
