Rod Placed In Bone For Broken Left Femur Is Protruding Above The Bone And Causing Discomfort
I am 59 yrs, Broke my left femur up high few inches from Ball joint. With rod placed in bone along with 2 screws the rod is protruding above the bone this is very visible on exray and is causing great discomfort. This surgery was 5 1/2 months ago. I am in a lot of pain and have to use a cane as I limp a lot. thanks
Generally, protruding implants from fracture fixation will cause painful soft tissue rheumatism owing to the movements of the overlying muscles on the metal screws.
If the xray shows good consolidation of the fracture, the offending screws & plates can be removed.
Anyway, the decision whether to retain or remove the implant will be better judged by your treating doctor.
So, approach your treating physician and discuss the issues.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
