Redness, Swelling , And Pain At Toenail. Applying Antibiotic Ointment. Cure For Symptoms?

I have redness, swelling , and pain at the bottom corner of and just to the right of my big toenail. I ve had an ingrown toe nail before but swelling and pain site has always been at the top corner of toe nail..this redness and swelling starts about midway and curves around bottom of nail. I ve been putting triple antibiotic ointment on it but no help so far.

Hi, thanks for your query.
You seem to have accumulation of pus beneath your toe nail due to ingrowing toe nail leading to redness swelling and pain.

You may take the following treatment:
A course of oral antibiotics and ant inflammatory analgesics by prescription.
Let the nail grow above the lateral nail fold and don't cut the nail too deep.

Apply an antibiotic cream twice a day after luke warm saline soaks.
It may take a month or more to settle as the growth of toe nails is slower.
Once it settles never clip your nails too deep.

If this does not help, you might have to undergo surgical removal of lateral part of the nail.

Hope this helps.
