Redness In Tear Ducts, Difficulty Producing Tears, Dry Eyes. Wearing Contact Lenses. What Could I Do?
Hi, I have been having trouble producing tears in my eyes recently and just this morning I found reddish crust in my tear ducts. I know yellow is normal but red is a bit concerning. Any ideas as to what might be going on?
P.S. I suppose is should say have been getting used to contact lenses and have been using safe eye drops for them. I have taken a three week break from my contacts to see if my eyes would get better but so far they still cannot tear up and I wake up every morning with incredibly dry eyes. They look healthy though save for the occasional redness that comes with dry eyes. The fact that I can’t easily tear up concerns me however and my eyes really hurt. This bit of red crust in my tear duct seems very concerning. What could it be and what should
i do?

From the history given by you , it seems that you are suffering from dry eyes / blepharitis .Basically dry eye is a multifactorial disease of the tears and the ocular surface that results in symptoms of discomfort, visual disturbance, and tear film instability with potential damage to the ocular surface . I would suggest you to visit your eye doctor and get your eyes examined . Your eye doctor may advise you for Schirmer test , slit lamp exam and you may be prescribed with antibiotics . Meanwhile , do not wear your contacts and use lubricating eye drops (artificial tears) .
