Reddish brown vaginal discharge. Blood test shows low iron. History of miscarriage. Causes?

HI..Have been having brown discharge for almost a month and a half now.. I was tested for any infections and it came out negative. I m not pregnant either. I had a miscarriage in and June and a D&C was performed in June. After that, I had my first periods in August and the next one was in Sep. Since Oct, I have been having a reddish brown discharge throughout. Wondering what could be the possible reason. My test showed that I m running low on iron but my heamoglobin level was ok. please advise.

Although not all cases of brown vaginal discharge are cause for concern but in your case there is definitely a cause for concern as it has been going for past more than a month.
Normally  brown vaginal discharge is most often associated with old endometrial cells but it can also be a symptom of a medical concern that is much more sinister than leftover endometrial cells.

Some common conditions causing brown vaginal discharge include
 cervical cancer,
 Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
Sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea, Chlamydia or vaginal warts.

Although each of the above mentioned have much more noticeable symptoms in addition to brown discharge like pain, burning, itching, pain during intercourse, frequent urination, vaginal dryness, loss of appetite etc.

What you require is a thorough examination by a Gynecologist and determining the cause.
Treatment can be suitably instituted once the cause is identified.
