Hi Dr Sumit
I have been having these red itchy blotches (round big/small) on my neck, stomach and underarms. My husband has it only on his butt. We've gone to a skin specialist and she gave us a cream( i forgot the name) but it is in a brown big tube. It still does not work. the itch is not painful it is just get really itchy when we are sweaty. we've tried the 'itch guard', 'ring worm itch cream' but still nothing helps...could you please help us?

Hi.Tinea versicolor is a fungal infection of the skin and is caused by a type of yeast that naturally lives on your skin. When the yeast grows out of control, the skin disease, which appears as a rash.infection can happen for any of the following reasons: oily skin ;living in a hot climate; sweating a lot.It can be treated by --Topical anti-fungals agents applied directly to your skin and may be in the form of lotion, shampoo, cream, foam, or soap. They keep the growth of the yeast under control & antifungal pills (treat more serious or recurrent cases of tinea versicolor. Or in some cases they may be used because they can provide a simpler and quicker resolution of the infection).Since all antifungal medications are prescribed for a long duration(few weeks) compliance is utmost important and the medication should be regularly used.Dusting powder (Zocon) might help (instead of ointment) specially while attend your office.I suggest to take the medication as prescribed by your dermatologist or discuss with him if itching does not subside.Over the counter medications (itch guard etc) can be used but symptoms might be partially relieved because of improper usage.Hope this helps.Take care.
