Red-brown Scab Entering The Nostril, Sores On Lip. Is This Impetigo?

My son has a small red-brown scab at the base of his nose that also enters the nostril. The sore began as what appeared to be a rash on his upper lip and nose. Sores developed on the lip (now healed) and the nose. The nose sore persists. What could this be? Impetigo? Treatment with over the counter antibiotic cream has done little to improve the sore.

Hi
Thanks for your query
You seem to be right. Impetigo is a very commonly seen superficial skin infection seen in young children.
It presents with brownish golden colored superficial scabs over the affected site which is mostly the face.
Usually topical antibiotics help in healing of the infection. Something like mupirocin ointment helps in most cases. However, if after application of the same for few days, still the lesion is persisting, i would advise you to give a short course of oral antibiotics to the child of azithromycin syrup to be given once a day for only three days.
Proper cleaning of the lesion with lukewarm water or any antiseptic solution is also very essential. Do not apply any other creams or oil over the lesion

hope it helps
