Recurring Thickening On The Finger Knuckle, Peeling Causing Exposure Of New Layer. Cause?

a few weeks ago the skin on my left pointer finger knuckle started to thicken (kind of like a wart ) and become very itchy. I woke up one morning and the skin began to peel off, so I peeled off all the skin on my knuckle, exposing a new layer underneath. This was about a week ago. A couple of days ago the skin started to thicken again and is becoming very itchy all over again. What is this?
