Reason For Child's Soft Abdomen, Stomach Ache, Foul-smelling Diarrhea?
My 4 year old has had complaints of stomach aches for at least a year now. I recently had her a blood work up for food allergies that all came back normal. Not sure if it related to tonight but she started complaining her stomach was hurting again last night and all day today. Started having sulfurous smelling diarrhea this afternoon and then just vomited about an hour ago and it smells the same as her stool. Even when she burps it has the same sulfurous smell. Her abdomen is soft and she doesn't complain of pain when examined. She has only eaten a couple of bites of applesauce and dry toast today. Should I be concerned....
That could be because of several causes. One of the most important cause is infection of the gut. Bacterial infections are associated with pain abdomen with loose stool and vomiting. But there are other causes of pain abdomen and other problems that you described. I suggest you to consult your doctor for a physical examination. He will order laboratory investigations depending on the physical examination findings. Some times stool examination, ultrasound abdomen may be required. Management depends on the investigation reports.
Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care.
