Raw spot under tongue, in the middle of genital herpes outbreak. Can herpes cause this?

I went to the dentist on Sat. I began having a raw, irritating spot under neath my tongue on the right side so I mentioned it. As he was looking, he noticed that I have a lesion on the back right side of my tongue and wants me to get it check out. However, I have genital herpes and am currently in the middle of an outbreak and I believe I got it in my mouth as well, but was never diagnosed. Could a herpes outbreak cause a red spot with a pitted center on my tongue and cause enlarged papillae? He suggested I contact an Oral Surgeon but if it is an outbreak it would just be a waste of time. Thank you for your time.

Hi k heather don't worry, herpetic infections are viral in origin and will subside after running its course.Mostly after 10-14 days symptoms wear off so my suggestion to you is wait and be patient, have plenty of fluids and eat well and avoid any stress..Since you are in a middle of the episode most likely you will be relieved soon .Get well soon.

In rare cases, a raw or sore tongue may be a symptom of a serious medical condition such as herpes. If you suffer from feelings of soreness or pain in the tongue, try the following raw tongue home remedies. If the soreness persists, consult with your doctor or dentist:
Use a soft bristled brush to reduce injury to your gums and tongue
Increase the intake of foods rich in vitamin B, folate and iron. Studies show that people prone to canker sores are deficient in B-complex vitamins. To remedy the situation, foods such as lentils, peas, beans and legumes are good sources of folate while lean meats and seafood contain high amounts of vitamin B. Iron rich foods such as tofu, beef and fortified cereals can also help prevent mouth sores and ulcers.
Avoid spicy and hot foods as these may aggravate the condition.
Make a solution of half-teaspoon sodium bicarbonate mixed with a glass of warm water and gargle with this every hour until the soreness reduces.

Dentist Dr. Preet Kaur's  Response
hi there
thanx for the query
as you mentioned you have an outbreak of genital herepes there is very slim chance of you getting affected by herpes on tongue as genital herpes or herpes on one side of body is mainly caused by HERPES ZOOSTER and oral herpes(in mouth) is caused by HERPES SIMPLEX (type 1 or type 2) .although there are chances herpes can affect any part of body.
you need to see a dentist (oral surgeon)as well as skin specialist to rule out the exact diagnosis and get medication for the same , one need to take medicines for herpes as its boils are painful and get infected causing more complications.
