Raised Welts On Eyelids, Itchy. Used Antibiotics And Anti-allergies. What Is Happening?

I am a healthy 2o year old, great hygiene, wash face nightly. For the last few months I have had raised welts starting on my eye lids and moving around my whole face. It starts out being itchy and progresses into a swollen, welted, red, hot area. It last anywhere from 1-4 days and once it “heals” it leaves a dry flakey area. I have tried switching my make-up 3 times, I have changed my face wash and I have no idea what else to do. The first Dr. I went to thought it was a sign of infection (mrsa) and put me on antibiotics. A week later I woke up and my eyes were swollen shut and I had red welt like areas on my face. I went to urgent care and the Dr. said he had no idea and gave me an allergy prescription. Still nothing worked. Then I went to my eye Dr. worried this could affect my vision and he said its allergies. From the seasons changing. So he gave me some eye drops. Still nothing has worked. I now have itchy red swollen welts moving around my face, one day it will be under my eyes, the next it will be on my chin and cheek. I am out of ideas, I’m sick of all this I can’t figure it out. I am a clean healthy girl, this should not be happening. Idea? Please

Dear friend,

You are sufferening from a condition known as "urticaria" which can be acute or chronic.

As you are having symptoms for past few months, that is more than 6 weeks, it is known as chronic urticaria.

It is a sort of allergy which can be due to infection or any drugs.

Please tell me if you are on any sort of medication.

This sort of allergy can be severe enough leading to respiratory distress and angioedema that is swelling of lips and eyes; which can be an emergency situation, may require urgent hospitalisation and intervention.

I will advice you to get your hemoglobin, Total leucocyte count , differential leucocyte, urine routine and microscopy done.

I will recommend you to take tablet levocetrizine in night and tablet fexofenadine in morning.

You may need to take a short course of oral steroids but under supervision only.

Send me the reports of the investigation listed so that we can proceed further.

stay healthy.
