Hi, so I was cleaning my ears, and I think the tip may have came off, but all the health clinics near me are closed and I don t have any form of transportation to get to an ER. That and I m not familiar with the city (I just came here for school) so I wouldn t know where to go. Can I wait until tomorrow when the clinics are open or is there something I can do?
Hi, Nothing to worry, you can attend clinic tomorrow to remove a part of q-tip. If you get pain, take Advil or Tylenol as and when required. If you have antibiotic drops, put into the ear. Do not try to remove tip by yourself. Ok and take care.
I am Dr Sriram Nathan an ENT surgeon and I shall try to help you out with your problem.
The ear tip is made of cotton which is safe material and if your drum is intact then you have nothing to worry about.
You may wait for a few days till you can consult an ENT surgeon with proper instrument and expertise to remove the same rather than you trying to remove it and causing more harm than good.
Make sure you do not take head bath do not put any drops in the ear
If you have pain then you may start an analgesic and if the pain and swelling is seen then you may start an antibiotic like amox-clav in consultation with your doctor
hope this helps
get well soon
regards
Dr Sriram nathan
