Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on your symptoms, you could have possibly suffered a rib fracture or contusion of the intercostal muscles.

An xray is necessary to rule out a fracture. The general treatment guidelines are as follows -

* avoid lying on the affected side which produces pain
* Use ice packing on the injured area once in 2 hours
* Gentle massaging with a painkiller gel
* Moist heat fomentation to relax the tense soft tissues
* Use analgesic antiinflammatory medicines like Advil or Aleve as needed

Your symptoms may take around 2 weeks to settle down.

If you are concerned, approach an orthopedic surgeon for further management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
