Pulled Muscle While Sneezing. Feel Painful. Hurts When Yawn, Cough Or Breath. What Can Be Done?

i think I pulled something during a sneezing spell - what is located right under the left breast - particularly are there muscles in that area I may have pulled? Its very painful if I try to bend over or reach for something with my left arm and hurts if I happen to yawn or cough, though breathing has gotten a little less painful.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi and welcome to HCM

It seems that you had a muscle pull at chest region.

You should give proper rest to your chest. Do not lift heavy weights from that side.

Pain killers like Diclofenac 50 mg twice a day after meals along with antacid like Omeprazole 20 mg along with muscle relaxant like Tizanidine 2 mg twice a day for 5-7 days will provide some relief.
Take medicines under medical supervision only. Hot fomentation and application of local pain relieving gel will be helpful.
Physiotherapy is very beneficial in such cases.

If the problem persists, get yourself examined by an Orthopedician.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and informative and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

It seems that you have could have suffered a spasm of intercostal muscles causing you pain while yawning or coughing or even breathing.

* Avoid positions or activities that cause pain
* Try to stretch the affected muscles by slow & gradual movements
* Apply ice packs over the painful areas once in 2 hours
* Moist heat fomentation will help in relaxing the taut muscles
* Analgesics & muscle relaxant medications will help

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
