Prescribed With Metronidazole And Fluconazole For Spotting And White Discharge. Sharp Pelvic Pain, Cramps. Reason?

Since February, I've been spotting daily and having vaginal discharge. I went to see my Gyno on 4/16 and was prescribed Metronidazole 500mg and Fluconazole 150 mg tablets. After treatment, my symptoms did not stop or lessen. I then was prescribed Clindamycin 2% vaginal cream 40gm on 5/3. After treatment, my symptoms still exists. Occasionally I will have sharp pelvic pains, like horrible cramping. It does not last long and is not constant. I've only been sexually active with my husband for the past 15 years. Recently I have been bleeding after intercourse. We have been celibate since April but the daily spotting and discharge has not gone away. What is wrong with me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

From your description and from the medication advised by the doctor, it is quite clear that you are most probably suffering from an infection. Which infection? I cannot be too sure without more details on the vaginal discharge. A laboratory analysis of the vaginal discharge, along with a culture and sensitivity investigation would provide us information on the diagnosis as well as the most suitable antibiotic that can be used to treat your condition. You are not responding to the medication, which means either the source of the infection could be viral, fungal, etc; or because the right antibiotic has not been used so far.

So, please go about the investigations I have advised and I am sure you shall be fine in no time.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
