Prescribed Medroxyprogesterone For Missed Period. Normal Blood Tests And USG. Safe Medicine?

my 15 yr old daughter was prescribed medroxyprogresterone for missing her cycle for the last 7 months , before that she had her cycle normal for a year and half, her diet and activity changed also changed 7 months ago, for the better (healthier) . we had blood tests and topical ultra sound done and all came back normal. I am concerned of putting this drug in her and does she really need this? or should we let nature take its place ? really not sure what would be best for her? help

Hi and thanks for the query,

It s bothersome obtaining absent periods, especially in a female who has had normal cycle for over a year. It s quite reasonable to put the absence or missed periods to be due to stress of change of diet / exercise as causes of this absence of missed periods. However, other serious medical conditions must be considered. An abdominal ultrasound should be done to exclude Polycystic ovarian disease. Use of hormonal therapy under these circumstances is justified, provided other organic causes are not identified.

I suggest the child be keenly followed up by a gynecologist. Thanks and kind regards.
