Prescribed Gupisone For Arthritis. Any Side Effects?

Hi...my mom is suffering from arthritis and the dr. has prescribed her gupisone. she seems to be really worried about taking gupisone as her medication....as she thinks its a steroid and may have severe side effects. Is that true? Gupisone does surely cure her pain but she doesn't take it regularly, only when the pain gets unbearable and she is not able to walk, she takes gupisone. What do u recommend her to do?

Hello,

Gupisone is Prednisolone a steroid.
In arthritis there will be damage to the cartilage of the joint and inflammation. This causes severe pain. Steroids helps in decreasing the inflammation and thereby reducing the pain.
It is not a permanent cure and the long term treatment has lot of systemic side effects.
Steroid can be an adjuvant therapy in the management but not a main stray.
