Prescribed Canesten Pessaries For Constant Thrush Throughout Pregnancy. Can It Used After Losing Mucus Plug?

I have had trush constantly throughout my pregnancy and have been using canesten pessaries prescribed by my doctor. I have trush again and have been given a 500mg pessary but am now 39 weeks, I have lost my mucus plug and am 1cm dilated. Is the pessary still safe to use at this stage or can it harm my baby?

Hi,
The pessary can still be used as the membranes are intact and the chance of the thrush infecting the baby during delivery is more than the pessary affecting it. Please maintain genital hygiene in addition. You may use a mild antiseptic solution to clean the genital region. The treatment may be continued even after child birth as it is safer than oral medication assuming that breast feeding is given. Hope your query has been answered. Wish you safe motherhood.
